An Introduction to Python

What is Python?

Python is a multipurpose programming language, with a simple and beginner-friendly
syntax, used for writing software in a variety of application domains. It was created by Guido van Rossum and first released in 1991. It is the fastest growing, most popular programming language, and can be used by people from various different disciplines. Its simplicity and elegance is at the core of its growth and popularity, and it is the number one language employers look for in candidates.

What can you do with it?

Python is widely used by software engineers, data analysts, scientists and accountants. Professionals use it in different fields for data analysis and visualisation, artificial intelligence training and automation. At the core of Python is the idea of automating functions, making all these different jobs and tasks easier, without the complexity of coding that comes with other languages like C# and Javascript. Because of this, it is also used to develop web apps, desktop
apps, testing and hacking.

Why is it so popular?

Python is so popular because it allows programmers to solve complex problems in less time, with fewer lines of code. It is short and clean, especially in comparison to alternatives like C# and Javascript; this also means that it is less expensive to code with and maintain, and so favoured by domain holders and creators. It is high level, cross-platform, and placed within a large ecosystem and huge community
